I have been shooting in an improvised studio, but at this point my white seamless paper is beginning to bore me. I am in need of some props, but not making a penny of this I am not in a rush to spend hundreds of dollars.
I am shooting in an empty apartment that has nothin in it, I often bring a chair or something like that, but that is about it.

What does everyone use as far as props? Cheap and handheld/portable is my strong preference :)

ebay or thrift stores would be good places to look. Hand held mirrors, feather boas? what are you looking for...

On the web I saw transparent inflatable couch, I thought it would make for a good prop especially if lit up with a gel ... unfortunately hey are ever out of stock. What kind of things make good props in your experience?

furniture can be good, but you have to find the right style. I see a few settees around- the little ottaman like things but with wooden legs instead of a solid base. Cubes, either upholstered or not can be fun too. I need to build me a cube.

Hawk,
I actually have cubes, did not even have to build one, Bed, bath and beyond sold a set of two matroska like (small could be put inside of large) brown leatherette cube for real cheap.
I live in an apartment and shoot in another space that I can not put anything permanent in. So buying furnuter is problematic :). I am looking for more portable. Now I am thinking may be a mask, anything hand held really. I had a blast with a $5 paper umbrella. :)

maybe my term is wrong. the settee seems bigger. It's more like a dressing table footstool. Small, no back; just big enough for one model

Wow props, they are so important when taking this kind of pic, wish they would let us post some of our pics as this is our favorite pic, the Background we still call a prop, we look for a clean uncluttered back ground, like a building with bricks, used a rental car once, a deserted desert highway and so on.
As far as things to take the pics with yes we have used the stool, but we use more things like super high stripper boots, wigs, angel wings and very sexy clothing. We find this stuff all over, sometimes at porn stores, on line and yes at good will. We feel that the huge thing with props it to be over the top something that you would not normaly wear.... Hope they will let us start posting these soon and then people can see what we mean....

You can post links to your images if the contain nudity or you can post non-nude shots in-line for illustrative purposes (to show how you use a particular prop, background, or lighting technique). The talk forum, is however, specifically for discussions of technique and usage and not for photo sharing. Hope that helps.
