Hey, everyone. Just upgraded from a G1 to a G3 - man, I love this camera!
I've gone on two big photo excursions in the month since I picked it up. If anyone's interested in seeing some of the photos...
This gallery was shot in the "Port of Milwaukee" area - basically, the part of town where all of our heavy shipping gets done. (I shot these the day after I got my camera.)

And this gallery was shot about two weeks later, in Gary, Indiana, at a decomissioned steel refinery.

Most of the photos were slightly modified in Photoshop... Either cropped, or the colors/brightness adjusted. (Or both.)
If anyone has any comments or critiques, I'd love to hear them!

Very cool site you got there Waylon. Enki Bilal comes to mind when I look at some of your industrial shots ... perhaps because I see you also know how to draw.

Oooh, Enki has a neat site. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see much because it was running a little too slow for me tonight... maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Waylon,
Wow! I really like these images (being very partial to industrial themes in photography), but what else strikes me as being really cool is the way you've presented them on your website. A few images, broken by a bit of narrative, some more images, more narrative. Good Job!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Glad you like the photos!
Chris: I checked out your site. Interesting stuff on there! You take a lot of the same kind of photos I do. :)
Astro: No industry in Jersey? Bah! You probably just aren't looking hard enough. :) At home I've had a lot of luck taking pictures in even semi-industrial areas.... the local shipyards have a lot of cool stuff in them, and it's not all strictly off-limits to the public. I'm sure if you drive up the coast you'll find something.

Amazing ideas. I love the ideas. But your lighting for the most part stinks to high heaven.

Hah, well, I shot on-location. It was a gray cloudy day. I did the best I could, but you're right. The lighting just sucks.
(Of course, that's not to say I'd have any idea what do do with lighting even if I had total control of the scene. It's something I'm working on...)

I must say that your industrial photos captured my soul!. I collect industrial art and rust and concrete just do it for me. The decay and neglect stand in defiance and disdain of the thousands of humans that spent their lives building the industrial base. These images show the years of productivity of generations past being thrown away without a second thought. How many of us actually know how our parents spent their working lives as electricians, boiler operators, sweepers, riggers, or trenchers--building these edifices of obsolescence or toiling in them daily. This is history that we all can actually touch. These places are museums of our past and future. Touch them. Then go into a public museum and try to touch something. I live in Detroit and have spent much time in the past working in in such places but then without a camera. I now have a D30 and am considering a 10D. Thank you for the incredible photos--I added your site to my favorites. They have have inspired me greatly!!!

Astro-Waylon is RIGHT. Just not looking hard enough. You want industrial....Go to Asbury Park! Every step you take is industrial.
