Anyone have one of these? How padded are they? I'm assuming they are not launderable as the are padded, right? I need a bag for a 40D and Sigma 18-50 2.8 (nothing else) that doesn't look too cameraish and I prefer a top handle (which is why I ruled out Crumpler). My son and husband are clumsy so I need some padding which most Domkes don't seem to have. Thanks!

I don't know what those bag have any them, but I consider the padding in the Domke inserts to be better than what I see in most other camera bags. Most bags are far too soft to offer any actual protection but the padding Domke uses is more thick/dense and might actually offer some impact absorption.

I suspect the padding in the F9 and F10 is like the padding on the F5XB, which is pretty much pointless. I don't think the F8 has any padding aside from the bottom. For the record, I don't think I've washed more than one Domke bag in around 30 years of using them but I wouldn't see the light-duty padding used in the sides of the F5XA or F5XB as being any obstacle to washing them.

Here is the one I'm considering:

and

I wish I could find a decent review.

For one body I use the F5XB (takes a 5D II or 7D and 24-70 or 35 & 85 lenses easily) or the F3x (which takes up to a 1D3, 24-70, 70-200 and a P&S along with a flash and a guidebook or water bottle). The F9 and F10 are very new additions. I don't have anything against them; they just seem redundant to me.

From what I can gather on the internet, they have padded sides but I am wondering how padded.

My F5 has a very porous open-cell pad of aboutr 1/2" compressing to maybe 1/16", on the sides. The ends are a denser, but thinner, pad. But padding is really more of an annoyance than a useful feature. By the time it's thick enough to provide any real protection, it's probably doubled the size of the bag.

Too bad, I would prefer a more padded bag although I know many say it doesn't make a difference. Wish more stores carried Domke so that I could actually look instead of guess. I don't to shell out for extra inserts after buying $70 bag to carry one body and lens.

This photo shows the padding. Is this like the F5?

What part of the world are you in? Somebody may be able to to point you to a somewhat local store.

http://kumamoto.img.jugem.jp/20090128_556520.jpgExcept that the F5's padding isn't sewn to the top edge of the bag, it is.

Yup, they're great for some things but don't have what I want this time. Thanks, though!

My name is Dave and I'm a bagaholic...

I keep buying bags. I've been a Lowepro customer for a long, long time. Should have bought stock in the company.

I just bought my first Domke bag. F3--the waxed one. It's so easy to use. I can carry all I usually do, and not complain about the bulk. Or the weight. It's easy to carry and easy to get to my gear.

Came back from a trip to Arizona using a Tenba bag. It wasn't full; however it was a chore to carry. Good news--zipped bag didn't house any little spiders, snakes or things.

I've been a Domke customer for a long time. Many, many straps. My Domke vest is 20 years old. Don't know why it took me so long.

Glad I bought the D bag.

I'm actually glad that the padding is there on my F-5XB ;) Anyways, I think you are right. The padding on the F-10 appears to be similar (see the 2nd pic):
