My 5 year old son and I came across this fellow at a local pond. After some searching in a couple of books, my 9 year old daughter found that it is called a Black Crowned Night Heron.

Taken with a Canon 300D and a 70-200 f4 lens. I guess we were just at the right place at the right time...

Comments are welcomed... Enjoy...

These are nice shots.
What a Show-Off this guy was; standing on a slippery rock with one leg!

How did you find yourself at the right place at the right time?

Thanks for the praise...

He stood so still that he actually made it very easy to take the pictures... I was able to take my time.

Both are great but that first shot must rank among the best bird shots I've seen on this forum.
Very sharp and clear. Nice tonal range, composition and backgound excellent.

Jealous, Jealous I am. I love this picture. I wish I could get a bird to do that. I just don’t have the luck. Great first shot.

I hope to post more of this fella as he's hanging around the pond more often and thanks for the praise... once I have a few more pics I will post them.

The kind of shot I dream of taking one day! Just the right exposure to show the water moving. Beautiful!

To everyone who has commented thus far... many... many thanks for the wonderful praise and kind words.

I've only owned the DRebel for a few months now. It was my first dive into the SLR arena, digital or film, so the comments mean a lot to me. I hope to post other pictures shortly as I am heading off to the West Coast of Florida in the morning with camera gear in hand... :)
