This Peter's '69 Charger R/T. It has a stock 440 & is painted in a limited run original color. Peter was nice enough to stay later so I could get it in the late light. That's him at the front of the side shot.

I remember the charger from the movie Bullit. Probably the most famous dodge ever.
This is the year after that movie chase model? (I think)

Bullitt came out in 1968. Trivia for Bullitt (http://www.imdb.com/rg/title-tease/trivia/title/tt0062765/trivia)
"The director called for speeds of about 75-80 mph, but the cars (including the ones containing the cameras) reached speeds of over 110 mph. Filming of the chase scene took three weeks, resulting in 9 minutes and 42 seconds of footage. They were denied permission to film on the Golden Gate Bridge."

Frank, Thanks for the "Bullit" trivia, as well as shots of this GORGEOUS RT.
I've got the movie put away somewhere. ;)

Right, in Bullitt it was a 68.... easist way to identify is that they didn't have that piece in the center of the grill.
Thanks for the pictures, beautiful car!

Georgous!
I drove 1970 with a 440 once... man it was sweeet! (it was a clunker in really rough shape.. at a used car lot for under $1,000.00 at the time.. but it was still faaaaaaaaaaaaaast! )

One of my friends has that car, only his is orange. Like this? I just happened to see this one parked on the street tonight! I drove 1970 with a 440 once... man it was sweeet! (it was a clunker in really rough shape.. at a used car lot for under $1,000.00 at the time.. but it was still faaaaaaaaaaaaaast! ) :D:D Another convert! Back in the late '70s you could buy a used hemi for $2,000. A lot of them went into the crusher 'cause of the gas shortage. Now they go for 6 figures. Who knew? :(

Yes, Marie, It was Steve McQueen. He did his own stunt driving & drove the Producers nuts because he wanted to race his motorcycles on weekends when he was shooting a film.
"Le Mans", which he was responsible for (at first) is THE best racing film ever made! A racers plot & minimal dialog. They used 20 cameras & 56 of the top drivers of the day. Too bad they didn't let him finish it the way he wanted to.
The camera car, a Porche 908 actually finished 8th in the 1970 race!

sad to see him die so young.

I don't think I ever saw 'le Mans' It's a "must see" for guys, but is no way a Chick flick!
Trivia: James Garner (another of my favorites) is a natural driver, too. The camera car couldn't keep up with him during the filming of "Grand Prix". It's maybe the 2nd best racing movie, but I think it was marred by excessive dialog. ;-)

and you are right, I don't think I would be mad about it

if the story line is anyway decent it can be ok
another film I loved back when  was John Cassavetes and Angie Dickinson in
'The Killers'
James Garner is very very likeable
the Rockford Files were full of humour

Speaking of "The Rockford Files", That was the first time I had ever laid eyes on a Firebird Formula 455. I think it was used for THE first Rockford Files of the series.
I also believe they may have only used it once or twice, and that car was the reason the show caught my eye in the first place.
James Garner played a perfect part in that show, but I always had to wonder why He (The character) never learned how to defend Himself, as He hardly ever won a fist fight. Never the less, He was always a Hero figure to me because He really knew how to drive, and as Frank pointed out, did all of His own stunt driving as well.
I loved the way He would reverse away from trouble, then wthout slowing down, He would spin the car around and keep going. I believe He developed that stunt Himself for the show. That was His Signature evasive action. ;)

if the story line is anyway decent it can be ok The story line is simple, "Racers racing". ;) There is a female involved in some long, meaningful looks which might give you about 2 minutes of happy speculation! They still had it in the video rental stores 2 years ago. Give it a try!
I believe He developed that stunt Himself for the show. He may have. I'd call it a "reverse Turner", after the legendary Curtis Turner, who developed the "Turner" turn. He was a moonshiner from WAY back, who was said to be able to reverse the direction of a loaded flat bed truck on a one-lane bridge without touching either side! Probably an exaggeration. Might have been a two-lane bridge! :D:D

very sorry I missed this last evening Bruce
I love how you describe his 'flight' exactlyhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif , how the car took off
there was something about his easy going manner, while doing everything , as though it were normal behaviour
thanks Bruce
