I seldom convert my photos to BW simply because I am uncertain if I am doing it right... please criticize guys...

1. Photowalk output... purely ambient light without use of reflector ... Sigma 70-300mm

2. Studio model shoot .. Canon 50mm 1.8 II

3. My sister's new born son... ambient light...without use of reflector ... Canon 18-55mm Kit lens

#1 and #2 are nice BW shots. A bit over processed for my taste. In #2 the face has a bit of a "plastic" look. #1 is the best.

I do not know what to make of #3 though....

#1 is way overcooked. Showing some restrain would have gone a long way in this shot.
#2 Why so much smoothing? It clearly looks fake. Is that what you were going for? I seriously doubt that this girl needed that much skin smoothing.
#3 Conversion looks better. The crop feels tight. I would have prefered some fill light on the side of the face.

^^ Agreed, 1&2 look over-processed to me.

The actual conversion is good though.

Ditto for me on this series.
