I tried to play a movie using Windows Media Player. All I got was the audio. I got an error that said "error downloading codec." I called Canon tech support and they said to download the mjpeg codec from anywhere. Why wouldn't they include it with the camera's software? All of the ones I found must be purchased. Anybody have any luck finding a good/free place to get the required codec? Seems stupid that Canon doesn't give you a working setup.

I have used Media Jukebox 7.0 (www.jriver.com - version 8.0 is now available) and it works great.
I also like Irfanview for viewing all sorts of still graphics - quick and easy to use. They have a pointer to the needed codecs, but I haven't tried them yet.

use kazaa and look for "Nimo codec" it has all the codecs youll ever need for viewing anything you want. from videos from your camera to divx movies that you've downloaded

Apple Quicktime 6 can play the Canon M-Jpeg AVIs just fine and it's free.

i think if you just download the divx codec then that will work, i had troubl with some other avi's and it seemed to fix it, that will haelp if you still want to use WMP. hope that's helpful.
