Hi guys,
I'm new to DSLR, and recently bought a 500D. I also borrowed a 100-400L, and used it at the SIngapore Airshow.
I took this image, and was wondering how I can further enhance the detail of the Apache, especially since it's so dark, and also the the rotor effect?

Lastly, the rest of my album is here, please feel free to critque. Thanks

I use photoshop cs3 you might want to try to select the apache then go to Image, adjustments then try shadow/highlight tool just dont overdue it as it will bring out a bit of noise. Hope this helps

well I'm not sure what you can do with it, it doesn't look like you had the best lighting conditions for the shot. You can increase the exposure but you will then blow out the sky and clouds. Your image #427 is pretty good, but way too fast to get decent rotor blur. You will want to shoot someone around 1/125 at the fastest to get decent blur, then adjust your aperture and ISO accordingly. I also like the Warthog in number 567, that's a good shot! All in all, I'd that they are pretty darn good for shooting your first airshow. Helos and props take a decent amount of practice to get good prop blur, but you did good! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys for the feedback. I had a hard time getting sharp images on the F16 as it was so fast. Another problem I had was with the bright sunlight, it made it very difficult to preview my shots.
Thanks again for the feedback!

First, you're image is aRGB instead of sRGB, so it will lose some apparent contrast.
Second, you could try a Blend Mode with a Layer Mask (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=117950). I used Screen mode here:
426550
Third, a bit more sharpening of just the body of the chopper would help:
Selection for sharpening illustration. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=6232485&postcount=57)
And last, I haven't had much luck with getting realistic rotor blur in PS, so you're on your own with that. ;)

Here is my poor attempt. Frank has got it absolutely correct.

There are edge sharpening actions on the web also that will only sharpen the aircraft and leave the sky alone. I use such and action on all my photos. Just Google it.
