Well I thought my focusing screen was dirty and couldn't get the dust off by blowing on it so I took it out and noticed it was perfectly clean. I looked through the viewfinder without a focusing screen and can see tons of dust in there. Any way to get that crap out of there ? >.<

Use a blower inside the camera, and I wouldn't take anything out of it myself. Between a blower and the copperhilll cleaning kit you should be able to keep the inside of your camera clean and safe.

i've actually tried blowing on it...but i still have the specks! another question - how do i clean the mirror..i can see it's not clear! but i don't want to touch it just in case i scratch anything!! and the mirror and the focusing screens are much smaller than my eos 30 film!!!

I just went through this exact procedure. I swapped focusing screens in my 1D Mark II to a Canon Ec-B Focusing Screen. The Ec-B is a split prism screen. I did this because I thought I was going to need to use manual focusing more but never did. The focusing screen comes with a tool to change the screen.

After changing the screen I noticed I got some sort of fiber behind the screen. I have cleaned the entire area with Eclipse fluid, blowers, sensor brushes, etc. etc.etc. Some fibers leave, some appear. I have given up getting the view clean. I got it to "acceptable" and left it alone.
