1d MKii and CF card last one I promise

Can I ask do you need to format the card every time you use it with the 1DmkII.

Even if I delete all the images I still need to format it, is that correct.

What else is stored on these cards that simply deleting all the pictures does not clear the card?

No, you don't need to format every time you move images off it. Canon recommend formatting in camera from time to time.

Having said that, I do format each time, its only a 2 second job, and does no harm.

I format a CF card every time I put it in the camera. The main reason is that if I switch from using a card from one camera to another, the file numbering doesn't get screwed up.

To me, other then the potential benefit of file number, formating a card is like refreshing the battery, you don't need to do it every time, but it helps to do it every once in awhile. And unless the 1DM2 is different from 1DsMkII, 10D and D60, as long as you also delete the DCIM folder after copying the images it won't renumber the camera.

The only time I format the card is right at the start of a model shoot and it is more of a making sure the cards are completely clear and ready to go then anything else.

I use to do that too but now that I use PhaseOne Media Reader I don't have to it erase it for me after it transfer to my HDD.
