Hi, I have been using google maps on my iPhone but feel it is time to upgrade to Navigon, TomTom, or something similar. Are there any recommendations for the most reliable GPS navigation software for the iPhone?

Uninformed opinion here...
The iPhone gps is not real accurate, and I don;t like tying up my phone.
If you are going this route - Google maps seems close enough.

A real GPS is going to be better at navigation than the iphone.

This is my humble opinion, First thing get a dedicated GPS, I have used TomTom, Magellan and Garmin and so far, by far, the best one for me has been Garmin, so that is my suggestion.

I returned the magellans 3 times and tom-tom twice and non on Garmin, I don't work or do any advertisement for any of them.. Just saying LOL

I agree a real GPS would be better, but more for its better user interface, dedicated function, etc.

I have an in-dash navigation system in my Acura. The data is outdated, but I still find that better the using the apps on the iPhone with more accurate data. The dedicated function and user interface is faster, easier to use, and so forth. The apps on the iPhone work ok, but have some drawbacks (smaller screen, harder to use interface/button layout, require more attention from the driver, etc).

But I do find the iPhone GPS very accurate for me. It's always nailed my positon on a satellite map within 10' almost all the time when I have a reasonable Edge or 3G signal (probably 95% of the time). Its just the user interface that makes it cumbersome to use for me (smaller icons and buttons, sensitive touch screen to swipes and motion caused by bumpy ride, can't use any other apps while the GPS is running (music, phone, contacts), etc).

I have a dedicated GPS Garmin already.. I really like it, but I'm looking for something that finds satellites faster. The Garmin is always searching for Satallites... do you know which Iphone app picks up the location the quickest? Right now I am leaning towards the TomTom followed closely by Navigon.

i was all pumped to get a expensive gps app for my iphone, but my issue with them all is Input.

scenario.... you have the addy in a email of the reception hall... hit copy and then paste in google maps, its more than smart enough to figure it all out and find it... the apps I tried you have to enter everything line by line and un less you pull over, go to mail.... WRITE everything down on a napkin, then type it all in... line by line. (since you cant go back and forth to copy individual lines, maybe with backgrounder running on it.) to me thats frustrating. so untill they DIRECTLY interface google search as a means to find the location, im not buying any of them.

then there are time where you might not have the addy... just the name of the store or what ever... type in calumet photo, and it finds it based on where your at.

i cant justify 60-80 bucks on something that isnt truly useful... i keep going back to google maps and deleting the one i paid for. it just works. plus it has traffic on it.

ok, thanks for that... my trigger finger has slowed down a little... I just wish the mapping function of google maps was turn by turn..I always pass my exit haha
