G1 Stuck in JPEG!

I use nothing but RAW file format (with 1G microdrive). Switched to JPEG for a couple of shots, and now the menu will not offer RAW. I've tried changing every setting I can find, but RAW is still not on the menu. I note that the response to the navigation button is also verrrrrrry slooooow, so maybe the MPU is working hard for ??? My G1 is about two years old, think I have the firmware that came out about then, but have not updated since then. Does this sound like a firmware problem? Hard to understand how a piece of software could just wear out.

I shoot with exactly the same setup, had the same problem, and puzzled over this once before. Hopefully, your solution is as simple as mine was.

If your camera is set to "Auto" or any of the modes south of that on the dial, you cannot set RAW mode. Its only available in "P", "TV', "AV" or "M" settings. See page 56 of the manual.
