While walking through the Holla Bend NWR a few days ago, this bobcat decided to have his picture made. After posing for my wife and I for a few seconds, he calmly went back under cover never to be seen again.
Shot with the 20D and 100-400L.
C/C welcome and appreciated.

Thanks to all! We felt very fortunate to be given this fleeting glimpse of a very elusive animal. We were surprised at how large this cat was. Probably 35-40 lbs. But, as Airedale1 observed, s/he appeared to be in excellent health and very comfortable in his/her surroundings. (I have no idea as to whether this was male or female and I wasn't going to ask for an inspection! :) )
If anyone happens to be in Arkansas and driving through the Russelville area, I highly recommend a trip through Holla Bend NWR. Abundant bird life (including thousands of snow geese in the winter months), numerous deer and other mammals, and the occasional rare sighting like the bobcat above. You won't be disappointed.

It appears to me to be a female. The head is very refined. The male's heads are coarser.
