Hi there, new to the forum, just finding my way around.

A couple of weeks ago Nikki (my better half) and I went to the Zoo, which is something we both like to do on our day off.

I took along with me my normal Zoo Camera bag.

Canon D1MK2, Canon 70-200 USM IS L, Sigma 15-30MM can the Canon 580 flash, ALSO and most importantly a HUGE black silk cloth.

The following pictures were taken thru 2 inch thick dirty glass. If you look in the eyes of the monkey looking up, you can see the roof of the pen it was kept in.

The black cloth is used like a shrowd ??? (not good on spelling) just like the old fashion photographers used. I put the lens as close to, if not touching the glass and then drape the cloth over me, Yes I like like an A$$ but the pictures are worth it !

Here is the result. Hope you like,

regards,

David.

ISO was 400, Shutter Priorty (not sure what canon call it as I have been nikon for years) at F8 - Fill provided by flash dialed down 2/3 stops. Flash held by Nikki via ttl cable about 8 inches from camera.

Good job !!! I like the idea of the black thingy. God only knows how comes that I never tought about it. I'll steal the idea for my next zoo trip, if you don't mind :)

The last pic is my favorite.

It was something I picked up in New York, ever notice how many fashion photogrpahers wear black ??? - so if they get caught in reflections they dont show up. The black material just cuts out all reflections from the glass and works wonders !

Wow, through the dirty glass? Those are terrific, what a great idea to use the cloth.
