A BW image using the flare and diffraction as part of the photo, WARNING, to those who wish to try this effect it is dangerous to the eyes to take this type of picture without using some form of protection to the eye, i used a grad grey filter and used Strong tinted sunglasses to view and focus, be warned
EOS1DMK2, 17~40L zoom, grey grad filter

wow, this is really incredible. I tried something like this and it took me a while to focus, sun is so bright even throught dark glasses.

great technique there Martin, nice choice of subject too........have you tried that with infrared?

yeah thats really dangerous and tinted glasses are no real protection if you realy wanted to do it safely you need a true solar filter over the front of the lense using sunglasses still allows the lens to magnify the suns rays. other option is to focus on something else away from the sun then turn the camera and guess at framing not ideal but a lot safer.

i tried this once, no filter, got really dizzy taking the few shots i managed to get.
nice technique and smart for posting the warning.
