Hi All

Apologies in advance if some of the sizes are a bit wide for this forum, please bear with while I learn what is needed hereabouts :o

I took 905 images on the Sunday and these are my initial selection to share.

They were all taken with the 55-200 Canon; the camera was set to custom parameters Contrast & Sharpness to -2 and saturation to '0'

PPing wise they are levels adjusted; cropped; resized for the web and gently sharpened if/as required.

I think they're great. Good Senna t-shirt shot.

Bell is getting on a bit now.

Marshalls rock.

Is the Bugatti nose a bit blown? Or is that just me? Maybe not.

I must play around with the parameters :laugh

Hi Dave

Glad you liked them.

Re the Senna T shirt - I do try to look out for 'environmental shots' ~ I have some others to post over the next few days when I can make the time to prep them.

Re the Marshalls - the standard of the organisation at this event was amazing.

Re the Bugatti nose ~ I think you are right the more I look at I recall the colour was deeper. I must have another go at the levels on that one. I do remember that it was in full direct sunlight!

Re Parameters - until Sunday I generally relied on parameters 2 i.e. all set to zero. The level of PPing I have needed to do following these custom settings is, so far, a revelation. A few of the images looked like they did not need sharpening (USM) after the levels adjustment.

:)

I try to keep an eye out for people stuff too, end up taking photos of women though :)

Most of mine have been poked with the Adobe stick. My lenses cost pennies!

Have a look at my Brands, Goodwood and Le Mans threads - most of the photos in those have a fair bit of stuffing.

I will have a look at your other posts ref race tracks later.

Re the lens - this is the budget 55-200mm with the plastic EF mount. Nothing special in the construction department but optically it is a cracker.

See...I've seen and heard people say bad things about the 18-55 kit lens as well, and I haven't had any trouble with it.

Sometimes my crappy lenses surprise me - my ancient 28-80 non USM is quite nice. Slow. But nice!

A couple more images before clsoing down the one eyed monster ;)

This interesting concept vehicle for personal transport came out right at the end of the day at the entrance to the house.

TES is the Toyota Engineering Society. The vehicle made me think of motorised skis!

Box,

these are great shots :D
And done with the lowly 55-200, to that. I am really amazed.

Best regards,
Andy

Hi Andy

It is good to share the results of ones 'efforts' from an enjoyable day out & it is pleasing when they meet others approval :o

As for the lens - this is turning out to be a good lens, over on the dpreview forum it has had good user reviews and I was lead by them to purchase it. I originally bought the Sigma 75-300 APO but it suffered from back/front focus and a second copy in the shop had similar problems, so I got my money back and waited to make a fresh decision.

The Canon 55-200 is not great in the construction department - it does have some noticable play in the zoom ring that has no effect on the 'tightness' of the zoom function, for my peace of mund I looked at another one and it also had the same sort of play. The shop guy said it was common for the lens, I was reluctant to swap it because as you can see this 'copy' is a cracker.:)

Incidently, I bought the 350D with the kit lens and for what it is that lens is also very good performer - like this (non sport) image cropped and PPed as appropriate
