I'm not a big cat fan really, as you can tell from my name, i'm a dog and horse man but we do have cats in and around , and i'm more fond of them than i used to be ;)

Great shot. Excellent composition. I like your PP with selective color, its a nice touch. DOF is definitely an asset.

I love cats!!!! They're delicious.
Selective color has a time and a place and I don't think this is it. There really isn't enough contrasting colors to justify the eyes. In fact, it took me a second to see what you did. I'd either go all B&W or color.

It's a nice image, but I'd prefer to see more contrast in the B&W, and then a slight boost in saturation for the eyes, to get them to stand out just a bit more. You have image editing O.K. so if you don't mind, a slight edit...

On a side note, I'd like to see the full-color version. Looks like a beautiful cat.

I'm not a selective color fan, but I think this was done well, the color is downplayed so it's subtle. I'd even try it with less.

Like most photography, selective color has become very subjective. You say, TomAtoe... I say, ToMOTOE....
It's a nice picture of your cat. You should post this in the "pets" section to get some different feedback. I would PP the eyes just a tad more to give it a tad more pop.

Can you enlighten us? Maybe share with the OP when selctive color has it's time and place.

Was the only change you made to the eyes saturation or did you add more to them as well? Nice touch up with the saturation and contrast.
Nice to see before and aftershots on these pictures.

To be honest the original picture did have more contrast but i think it lost a lot being compressed, but then you managed to do good, maybe i'm just not that good at uploading stuff :)
Thanks for all the kind comments

I like the original. Foxhound's version has just a bit too much done to the eyes. With the original one might not even notice that the colouring is selective. A grey cat with nice eyes.....
In the processed version it becomes more/too obvious.

I like the contrast in katdog's edit, but the eyes are a bit too much for me.
Also original looks a touch out of focus ?

I have a selective color script I made in PSPX2 that I use. I ran the image through it so I could work on the B&W, then restored the color in the eyes. I then apply a saturation adjustment to enhance the eyes. I did nothing to add extra color to the eyes.
When I do selective color I prefer to work on the black and white separately, so that I can make any adjustments to contrast or sharpness, etc., without harming the entire image. I will then typically apply saturation to the colored parts, and then merge the layers. This one I just did a simple contrast on the black and white, and then adjusted the overall saturation of the whole image.
Not to hijack, but these are two of mine. I worked on the black and white separately so I could do what I wanted without hurting the color of the eyes. The lion got a little bit of a wash, and then I restores the eyes and boosted saturation on them. The eagle was just a simple pass through the selective color script and a saturation on the color layer.

I prefer to make the color pop more in most selective coloring. There's hardly ever a time when I think the color blends well with the rest of the image, so I tend to overstate the color a bit. I'd still like to see the full-color version, it's probably a great image without the selective coloring.
