Can I use my 20d with a Metz 45 CL4, I know it wont have E-TTL11.
I have always liked hammerhead flashes, had a Metz 45 CT4 years ago and want to get something similar.

Can anyone see any major problems ???

ETTL/ETTLII is a function of the camera body and a compatible flash. If the Metz is not ETTL compatible, you will have to use it in Manual Mode. It should work fine. If you aren't sure of the trigger voltage, use a Safe Sync in between flash and camera.

Thanks for the reply
I have managed to get a Sigma EF 500 DG Super Flash off flea-bay
Would have to had a hammerhead flash though, maybe Metz will bring out something in the future

Metz already does make a digital flash and I think you can get a TTL module for the 20D. The guys off ShootSmarter.com who test all kinds of equipement rate it as one of the most accurate flashes on the market. I can't remember the model number but I think it's a 7omz or something like that. Brand new they are like $700 ! They ought to be accurate !! LOL. I just saw one on B&H's sight though for $449 used.

You would be fine with the Metz 45. You would just have to shoot on auto and change your flash setting to the proper aperture to match your camera.

Scott,

The 45 CL4 has the conventional Automatic (eye in the flash) feature as well.
