Is the new Sigma DG version very different from the old version? Is it likely to be important from a resale value point of view?

You have to wonder if they just changed the label ;) Maybe they put better coatings on the back of the glass too, the only way you'll know is in a head-to-head test under difficult conditions. Google?

All the new "DG" lenses have cosmetic changes (e.g., tighter ribbing on focus and zoom rings) and add certain "digital anti-flare" coatings on the rear element. I've had both the non-DG and new DG Bigma, and I'm not convinced there is a huge difference optically. All in all, I'd decide based on how much price differential it costs you. The non-DG Bigma is still an excellent lens.
