I'm curious to hear how people got started with their business. Did you buy thousands in equipment, quit your job and jump right in? Or did you start out with photography being just a hobby with no intention of starting a business? Or have you known since you were a kid that photography was what you wanted to do and you have a degree in photography/art?

Started making more than the job I hated. Eventually the term ran out and I had nothing else going on and here we are.

when I got my hands on my 1st SLR, Nikon F4 and burned through 26 rolls of 36 exposures on my 1st 4 day holiday my dad took me on. I was 10 then.

Thanks, after searching a bit, I found this thread - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41194 which is sort of similar to what I was wondering.

Maybe a better question/poll would have been at what age did you turn pro (or semi-pro).

I find it interested that a lot of of the top pros that I follow, started photography as a second career.
