Took some photos of the first test flight of Boeing's new 747-8. Here's a quick one - I may post some more soon.

Like the 2nd and last one, interested in seeing the first in color and the sky cropped out a bit and you have something on your lens/camera. You gonna be there for the landing?

Are you talking about the little black thing behind the tail section? That's a deal attached to the plane to take measurements during testing.

So thisis obviously a test bed. I noticed that there are no passenger windows at all on this bird. It's a very sleek and sex large lady!
Nice images to the both of you that posted them.

very nice! I notice the winglets of the -4 are replaced by more discreet looking ones in this new one....if you can even call them winglets?
Is it bigger, longer etc? or just a modernised version of the 400 ? lacking windows, is it simply a freight specific model?
Either way, I still prefer the lines of the classic "jumbo" than the A380

interesting to see that it doesn't have the lengthened 2nd deck like the 400 has.. wonder why?
what else is new on this plane, anyone know?
and nice pics!

This is the 747-8F .. It is the Freighter version. The 747-8I Intercontinental is due to come out later. We are almost done with the design and will be building it soon. The length has been changed from 232 to 251 feet. The wingspan goes from 211 to 224 and is a complete new design. The engines are also a variation of the 787 engines. These changes give you more passengers (467 for the -8I vs 416 for the -400 in 3 classes) or Cargo depending on version all the while being much much quieter and saving 15% in fuel over the 747-400 versions and also extending the range from 7600 to 8000 nautical miles.
