My 17-85 IS arrived this afternoon. I went out to a local memorial where there is an F-4 Phantom and a B-17 Flying Fortress on permanent static display. My new wide capability let me stick the camera inside of the fence and still get most of the old girls in the pix. I think i'm going to really like this lens once I get used to it.

Skip,
Well done. You will enjoy your new toy. Where are these at? Are there anymore located there? Your lense makes a great air-to-air and air-to-ground lense as well.
Cheers,
Lynn

The F4 has always been one of my favourites - brings back good childhood memories seeing that pic. Thanks for that. Great pics too - enjoy the lens.

Merlin Driver? Which Merlin would that be? 4 wheels, or 3 w/2 retractable? ;-)

Thanks for looking Merlin Driver.
These are beside Highway 99 in Tulare, Ca. In the central valley. They are the only ones here. I am planning to go a short distance north to the site of the old Castle Air Base where an air museum now stands. I havent been there since it opened, should be fun.

Glad to oblige dewmuw.
When I was much younger I liked to watch "old smokey" at work. It is hard to believe that the F-4 carried a much larger ordnance payload than the B-17 but each was at the top of the game in their day.

Now THAT'S an interesting tidbit that I didn't know. I can see that new lens has already come in handy taking these nice shots. Enjoy it. :D
