I will be at the Texas Swim Center (http://www.tsc.utexas.edu/) at the beginning of March for the Austin Gran Prix swim meet. Anyone familiar with the lighting/sighting conditions from the stands? In all likelihood I will not have deck access, so I'm wondering whether I should bother to rent a 70-200mm F/2.8 (or something thereabouts) to shoot from the stands, or just sit back and enjoy the show like regular folk. ;^)

Thanks,
Roger

Hey Roger, that looks like its a long way from home. Do you have a child competing?

Definitely a long way from Oregon. ;) But yes, my boys will be swimming there along with a few of their teammates. I usually do duty as team photographer, but I'm concerned that at this venue it will not be possible to get much action from the stands.

Unless you can find a way to get a deck pass, save your money on the rental. Shots from the stands look like ....well....shots from the stands.

Cheers.
