View Full Version : Knowing actual number of shots taken?

I'd like to know how many shots my camera has actually taken, regardless of memory cards changes, renumbering, etc.

There surely is a way to know the true number of shutter actuations, but I can't find no SW utility to do that.

Is there a hack or something? Who knows that?

Only Canon can tell you that, you'll have to take it to a service centre. The software around only works for 1-series models.

Are you its orginal owner, and have you ever reset the counter? If you are not its first owner or have reset the counter, then it seems you are out of luck.

Also watch your counter with card swapping with other cameras, the camera will use the number on the card if it is greater than yours, i.e. if I stuck your card from your 10000 shot 20D in my 200 shot G3, it will jump to 10000 shots. Bummer eh?

I am the original owner and never reset the counter, so I know perfectly how many shots I've made. ;)

It is just a purely academic question: does such a piece of SW exist, or firmware hack?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't some sort of power on button combination you could press to get a status page. Just about every device has one for servicing. i.e. on my GPS I can hold down the enter button when powering up and can get all sorts of crazy signal strength, temperature, runtime stats, etc, as well as test screens for the LCD, audio chip and such.... I've never heard of anyone knowing how or if this is possible on these cameras however.
