One of my 1gb Sandisk extreme3 cf cards says it is full . , It has 16 pics on it, also 9 folders which are empty as I deleted their contents-Is this normal?
That is to say after deleting pics do you have to reformat the card to reuse the space
Also noticed a completely new card has only 6 shots in the first folder, 100 in the second, what's going on?
Or is my card broken/duff/up the shoot/? :(
I have file numbering to continuous but notice two cards share same some folder numbers

Make it practise to format the card in the camera before every shoot. I'm not sure why it says it's full but I always format before to avoid corruption.

OK I'll do that in future, also do you think it's best to use continuous file numbering or not??

continuous file numebering is great it'll help keep count on the number of shot taken with camera. I use to reformat my CF every time I finish downloading. But now I just delete the content (its automatic with Media Reader). Contrary to believe formating does not erase the content it just alters the FAT. Check out some of theMedia recovery SW and you'll find out that they can in fact recover files after formating. In your case the deleting didn't completely remove the memory allocation causing the FAT to think that there is still content in clusters that are suppose to be available. Formating in this case would relinquish the clusters.

How can I have the same Folder numbers though on different cards?
I have always had it set to continuous

from what I understand cmaera generate a new folder everytime the folder gets fill with 100 shots. I personally don't use the folder name generated. I Generate my own folder names when I download it to my computer. I use a four digit year follow by the a two digit month and a two digit date. This way they will list in order in explorer. When I burn to DVD they would have the year in large font and then the month and date.

If you switched cards and weren't exactly on the first shot of a new folder, you will have identical folder names. For example, lets say you just shot IMG_2750. It should be in folder 127 on your card. You take the card out and put a different card in. When you shoot IMG_2751, it's going to create a folder 127 on that card as well. It's perfectly normal.
