I cant afford to go digital SLR but was looking at the likes of olympus c8080, canon pro1, nikon coolpix 880 etc... if anyone could give me advice on a camera of this type i would GREATLY appreciate it. I will be on line for another hour or so as i then have to start packing.....

Hello tallaghtspur -

If budget allows, get the Pro1, a spare battery, large capacity CompactFlash card(s), good case and (if budget allows) a good flash unit.

NOTE: the A95 is a lot smaller but gives nice pix AND it uses AA batteries - easy to purchase a rechargable kit anywhere in the world for little cost. But, the Pro 1 would require you to purchase an adapter for the voltage/plug configuration ... there is no free lunch.

I use the Pro 1 and the A85 and like them both but from your post I think the Pro 1 is a better selection...
> Better quality glass lens
> Faster lens
> Longer zoom (7x that comes in handy)
> Can save in RAW

Hello tallaghtspur -

You could also consider the Canon G6.

You could also consider a Canon S1 IS. It uses AA batteries and CF cards and has remarkable capabilities that make it an all around winner. Since the S1 is being phased out, it can be had at a reasonable price. In my case, even though I have a Pentax DSLR, the S1 is still my favorite for when I go out the door with no special projects in mind. I also have an A70 which still wows me with its great all around picture quality. I don't know how they do it, but the colors always seem to be just right on.
