Today was the first day I got up enough nerve to take the camera out in my kayak. I came across this guy and he never even blinked as I glided by. We were the only two out on the pond and a thunderstorm struck soon after.

That's a lovely shot, Airedale1. They are one of my favourite bird species. They're Black-throated Divers over here and through most of the UK are a rare breeding species. We are lucky living in the Northern Highlands, as they breed on some of the small lochans (lakes). Last year, for the first time we saw two pairs with young. A really memorable sight. :D

Excellent shot !! My favorite bird, love to hear their calls at night. So haunting !!Sometimes late at night I can hear their wails from my bedroom window as their is a lake not to far from home that has a breeding pair every spring. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I am disappointed that a lot of the detail on the loon is blown out. But there will be other chances.;)
