I am going to SAP open tonight at San Jose HP Pavilion. I wonder if cameras are allowed inside. Did anyone here attend this event and bring a SLR with you?

I moved this to TALK as you don't have an image to SHARE yet.

Camera and Audio/Video Recorders:
Still cameras (film or digital) are permitted at the SAP Open as long as the lens does not exceed six inches in length. Video cameras are prohibited. Guests that bring cameras that are over six inches in length will be encouraged to take them back to their car. Tri-pods or single-pods are not permitted at the SAP Open, as they can cause a tripping hazard in the event of an evacuation.

Out of curiosity, I wonder if a DSLR with the HD video capabilities would fall under the video camera prohibition. (regardless of lens length)

Probably not. Cell phones have had video capability for years.
But IMHO we should respect the intent of the policy and not use the video recording features.
The 6" rule is common... much better than the vague "no professional cameras/lenses". Makes me miss my 200/2.8L prime and even my old 70-300 IS... both of those were black and <6".

I wonder if that 6 inch is refer to the lens itself or the whole camera lens combo. either way, I think my 70-200 has no chance, maybe I will just use 85f1.8

Just tell them the lens is not detachable. That is worked for me twice in the past at sporting events.
