Hi,
I'm considering to replace my current 70-210 mm zoom with either a 70-200 f/4 or the 200 f/2.8. I find that I'm always using the long end of the zoom ... especially so after converting to digital.
I would like to hear from anyone who uses or has used the 200 mm. Is it any good?

There is really no reason whey the 200mm f/2.8 should not be as good or better than any of the 70-200mm zoom versions...save for the IS. This lens doesn't get mentioned as much because everyone seems to go for one of the zoom versions, but it is an L lens and a prime. It should be awesome...but I don't have it myself, so I can't say for sure.

Best lens in my bag, takes great pictures, great bokeh and works very nicely with the 1.4TC.

The best lens in my bag as well, and I have many "L's".

This is the Ver1 not the ver II but I think they are close enough.

Keep in mind it's black and therefore it's not an eye-catcher like the white 70-200 L zooms.

I love my 200mm mkII. Built like a brick as well.
Here is one sample from it.

But what the hell is the green stuff on the top around the glass?

Welcome to the Forum.
The 200mm f 2.8 L must be one of the sharpest lenses around and yet a lot of people tend to prefer using zooms.
Its quite a compact lens and also is not one of the more expensive L lenses.
vary usefull to get the 1.4 extender with this lens.
I use mine a lot for onstage shots.
I have a few shots on my Gallery you may wish to view

Hi everyone
Thanks for your replys. I think I'll go for one ... the reviews I found on the net all sound similar to what you guys are posting, so the lens can't be all bad.
