My lens just arrived and I will be taking out at lunch time to give it a try. First observation though is a little bit of concern. The zoom seems to be a little rough and not smooth. When I turn the focus ring it is nice and smooth, the zoom ring is not the same, is this normal?

I had a 70-200 f4 and don't recall this being the case. Can other owners please let me know if this is normal and will it break in?

Thanks,
Tim

The zoom ring can feel "gritty" somewhat; I've used several that felt that way, though with time it eases up. The focus ring is always smoother. I wouldn't worry about it unless there is an obvious problem.

"Gritty" is the word I was looking for but couldn't find at the time :-).

Thanks for the info, that eases my mind a bit.
