I like the feel on the first one. Maybe if the cat was more in silloutte (all black) bad spelling sorry. It might look a little stronger.
The second one is great!! My kids finally outgrew the purple guy and scream like that too when they see it. Thanks for the laugh.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Epic blizzard gave me lots of opportunity to play with unique lighting. The first shot does have number of options (like you mention, full silhouette vs. demi-silhouette; whether to go BW or leave some subtle hints of color). Also, in the example, I opted for a soft-edged (Clarity @ -75), and higher vibrance and saturation settings (25 and 5, respectively) at the expense of losing his whiskers. Anyway, I'll give it some time until one day a solution presents itself - it's one of those confounding shots.
Regarding Barney fun photo, it was one from a series of bracketed exposure shots with the intent to capture both interior and exterior scenes in the final product (cat sleeping comfortably on bed while blizzard rages on outside). This particular shot blew out the exterior detail completely so it became an ideal host for whatever fun I could create for my daughter.

The second one is pure genius and the first is quite good aswell. If it were mine, I'd just crop out what appears to be a reflection of the cat. I'm also seeing some marks on the backround to the left of the cat. I prefer the exposure as it is, works very well.

First one has potential, second one made my day. Thanks for the laugh! I too would crop the bottom out of the first one.

Thanks for the comments.
The first shot is much stronger, imo, owing to critiques provided:

As for the second shot, here is what I intended to achieve (combining bracketed shots to provide detail both indoors and outside), although by the time I set up the camera and tripod, the cat regrouped and awoke. The juncture of the montage (window frame) is still crude so I'll need to refine it a little bit more - a useful exercise, nevertheless.
