I'm planning to photograph a wedding in a couple of months, I shoot in a PJ style - I aim to document the entire day.
The groom and some of the family will be having a round of golf before the wedding, and I have no experience of photographing this sport. Does anyone have any tips, or example images I could have a look at for a little inspiration?

Keep your head down, your left arm straight, and put both cheeks into it.

and put both cheeks into it. :D:D Look on the bright side. You'll have 18 holes to get it right! ;)

Look on the bright side. You'll have 18 holes to get it right!Yep. The nice thing about golf is, if you suck at it, you get more practice.:)

Phil, are you trying to capture the social aspect, the competitive aspect, or some of both? Do you envision yourself taking any posed shots, or just candids?

Phil,
I would suggest a visit to the course beforehand. They may let you borrow a cart, so that you can find the most scenic spots to shoot on the wedding day. Maybe an exploding golf ball shot, if you can pull of the switch and surprise the groom. Suggest that they wear some traditional golf outfits. Go to a golf store or a golf web site and check out some of the photos of the pros for more ideas.

Its best to be right on the tee box and fire off about 5 in a row durings ones backswing, also on the green lay down right in line with the golfer and fire off some while they are putting, golfers love that. Umm just kidding, I agree with NJPDDC about checking it out beforehand, remember most golf courses are beautiful so try to incorporate the course in your pics, it adds beauty and perspective. Good luck and have fun.............Joe

I actually did this a couple months ago. It was 2 days before the wedding, but same setup. The first pointer I can give you is dont be hungover :-P Other than that, as somebody pointed out, you do have 18 holes to get it right. The course I was shooting on was Half Moon Bay in California, so there were quite a few hills. I found one of the things I enjoyed doing for a shot was taking my cart up on top of that hill and shooting down at everybody. Also remember that if you're not good at golf, it can be quite humorus. I got a good one of my two brothers walking around in the tall grass trying to find a golf ball :). Also, you can never go wrong with a tiger woods style shot of somebody blasting out of the bunker :-)
