View Full Version : No normal, no thumbs, & no microthumbs

After all the different setups seem to run fine, I tried uploading some photos but faced a fresh new problem.
I have 3 folders (normal, thumbs and microthumbs) under a parent folder (photos) which is residing alongside the input folder. I am using the default size, thumb and microthumbs paths that already came with EE, after modifying all their URLs and FTP folders (as well the relative paths). I'm also using the default resizing methods (Imagemagick 110 and Imagemagick 43) for the thumbs and microthumbs.
After sending a photo to DB using "UPLOAD TO DATABASE" (step 1), it appears grayed out in "STEP 2 : select photos from server upload folder". Step 3 only shows the default (normal) resize method.
After clicking the Upload button in step 6, eveything seems to work fine, however, no photos appear in their respective folders mentioned above.
Any idea what's wrong? I certainly can't figure it out!
All help greatly appreciated.

Double-check that your ftp paths and http addresses point to same location. Only way to get the _real_ ftp path is to go there with ftp and give pwd command (in next EE this search is automated), sometimes symbolic links confuse things.
If ftp path to image size X and http path (URL) X do not point to same location on your server, it means upload is ok (EE will always create needed folder) but you won't see any images because EE seeks them from other folder by http.

Just to be on the safe side, I performed a pwd command through SSH and the path is the same. Could it be something else? Thank you.

SSH path is not always the same as FTP path.
Is your ftp path accessible from WWW? Can you see the resized photos under www root?
What does ftp messages say about the resize/upload process? Any errors?

The pwd command in FTP is giving the same path. Yes my FTP is accessible from WWW. I cannot see any of the 2 photos uploaded in the www root (they are in fact in the /input/UPLOAD folder).
After giving the FTP another test through the EE FTP Server Setup, I noticed that both the EE Home FTP server AND the original local server have stopped working. Now only the "new ftp" (which I created initially) is working fine. When I was initially setting up EE, they were ALL working just fine.
It seems that the 2 non working FTP servers are first facing login problems (although they are using the same user/pass as the working server).
I also tried both, EE's internal ftp and the PHP ftp module, but EE's seems to be working better.

If one FTP server works ok, copy all settings from working ftp server to EE Home FTP server, ignore the third one.
Make sure that the correct ftp server is selected in path setup.
Do ftp tests few times. If it connects and logs sometimes ok and sometimes fails, the reason must be in ftp server (maybe it is busy)?`

I did that from before but it doesn't change a thing!

Well, the ftp server seems to be working without any problems but EE's Home FTP server will not budge. my FTP server is not busy as I can easily log on using an FTP client (plus I'm the only authorized user).
Sorry for taking so much of your time, I've almost given up on this problem.

All the tests in ftp server setup use same code, so if all servers on editor page have same settings they must work identically.
It's hard to make more guesses about why the problem is there. If you can, PM me how to reach your editor (make me a test ftp account if you are worried about security) - that is the fastest way to solve this.
