Taken by my son. The stuffed llama somehow appears in many of his pictures.

Your son seems to ba a natural, apart from his bad choice of subject.
Could we see an image of the llama only please
Best regards,
Andy

That's actually not me...it's my buddy Jesse, or as my wife calls him my "girlfriend, Jessica." Here is another llama shot by the boy.

Nice llama!
Did you explain the rule of thirds to him or does he like to experiment when framing
How old is your son?
My 2 year old will demand the exclusive use of my old G2 in about 6 months, at most .
At the moment he insists on chimping on my 20D whenever I take a photo in his presence.
If I use the G2, he allows me to hold the camera while he presses the shutter button :D
And he really can't understand how my (film) Ixus works ... no LCD at all to see the images
Best regards,
Andy

Al is six. I've really only explained that he needs to half press the shutter until he hears the beep, then shoot. I stress that he look at the lcd carefully before he takes a picture, but that's really it. When he asks more specific questions, I figure he is ready to learn more. That's pretty much how I teach him anything: give him the basics, when he expresses an interest to know more, I'll show him.
I bought the S500 when it went on clearance for him, to save on developing duds. He had been using an old Kodak p&s with a zoom, but it getting expensive developing rolls of duds. He recently asked me put some film in it because he missed the surprise he got from picking the film up from the lab. Already a film connoisseur. I've tried to show him some basic Photoshop tricks, like drawing a mustache on his mother, but he prefers I do the work. Once I get the Wacom, I think he'll change his tune.
You have a lot to look forward to, enjoy the momont, because it goes fast.
