A question I have had to ask myself in my quest for a new PSU (portable storage unit) to replace my dead X'S Drive.
Am I better off investing in more cards, be it standard CF or Microdrives (I have no issues with this technolgy, no more risky than a PSU)?
I have two 1GB CF's for my 20D at the moment, typical capacity is around 220 JPG's or 100 RAW's (vaires depending on ISO and subject matter). For a little more than the replacement I am considering for the X'S Drive (PD70X or VP3320) I can buy a 4GB Microdrive, goving me a field capacity of over 1300 JPG's or 600 RAW's.
The last trigger happy overseas trip we did for 8 days, I came back with just over 1000 unsorted images in JPG format, no RAW (holiday snaps), when travelling around NZ, I have my laptop with me.
OK the case of more CF cards instead of PSU:
Pros:
- Smaller lighter
- No battery issues
- Can review shots and delete bad ones (can't do that with any of the PSU's I am looking at once downloaded)
Cons:
- Far more limited capacity, PSU has 40GB of space
- More wee cards to loose
- More expensive option
- Can't easily share across mutiple cameras (I have a G3 as well, liable to screw up the file counters sharing cards).
Thoughts or anything I have missed?
