I'm looking for a lens case to carry on my Tamrac Belt. The one Tamrac suggests is their MX5347 but it shows as 10" deep. The 70-200 f/2.8 is 8.5" tall including caps. I don't want anything in excess of what I really need. What do you others polks use for carring this lens on a belt system?
Thanks
Jon

Just keep in mind that there will probably be times you don't want to reverse the lens hood when you stow the lens back in the pouch. 10" will still be too short for that, but not by anything like as much.

Jon,
Your right about the lens hood. But I plan to reverse the hood so there would only be the the extra girth to concider.

If you only shoot with one body, you may find yourself needing to swap between lenses and will frequently be putting the 70-200 into a case with the hood attached, ready to quickly reattach to the camera. I use a pouch made by Think Tank that has a zipper to expand the length. Sorry I don't have the model # handy now.

This is what I use
http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/skin-75-pop-down-case.aspx
or this
http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/skin-double-wide-lens-case.aspx
In both cases I usually have the hood NOT reversed and ready to go, but I do cinch the lens in the pouch if it's not connected to a camera body. This way it doesn't fall out when I'm shooting. I've had enough repairs on lenses as it is! ;)

I recommend the Lowepro lens cases. They have the right amount of padding and a lip.

I keep mine in Lowepro #4. Fit with hood (back), both lens caps and tripod collar nicely with 1" (ends) to spare. The thing is huge though...
