So there I was, out on the hills trying to take some sunset landscape pics, when I hear the sound of a multi-engine turboprop coming at me. I quickly flip over to sports mode just in time to get a few shots of this Herky bird flying by:

Actually, this is a KC-130, as I'm pretty sure that the outboard tanks are actually refueling pods, with those white rings near the rear of them being the refueling drogues.

The landscape shots didn't turn out too well due to haze (and operator... must...get...tripod!), but this certainly made the trip worthwhile!

Nice reaction time. I got surprised once like that, was out on Fraser Island in Queensland, and was climbing up Indian Head for some shots of the ocean and beach, plus just to enjoy the sunset. I heard a low-flying jet and sure enough, a military fighter was racing down the coastline at what must have been 1000-1500m. I turned and zoomed my 28-80mm in on him, but never got the shot off. Why not? Before I knew it my knees gave out and I was ducking on the ground for my life... a second jet was following him down the coast, and since I didn't see him coming from behind, it got VERY loud VERY suddenly. :D
