when i resize thumbnails, only the box around the thumbnail gets bigger. i have to select the photos and manually hit rebuild item.

is this the only way to resize? is there a dynamic slider (like in iPhoto) or an instantaneous way?

That's the way. Command B. It is manual so that that YOU are in control, and have a CHOICE about how much file space the catalog will use. every time you up size the thumbnail, catalog gets bigger. This manual control is a very professional feature for maintaining control. Since the thumbnails are rendered by QuickTime, on both Windows and Mac, thumbnail image quality is very high.
My opinion. J.

On import iView uses any originally embedded thumbnails or makes its own, depending on what you set in preferences. If you want to make bigger thumbnails , select the images - some or all, then set the thumbnail display to the size you want and hit cmd-B, it'll do them all pretty darned quickly. The catalog will grow accordingly, so bear that in mind!
