I'm trying to figure out how to keep the LCD off on my new A510 when I turn on the camera in shoot mode. I was able to do it on my A60 so that when I raised the camera to my eye to shoot through the viewfinder instead of the screen, the LCD would stay off until after the shot. I find it really distracting when the LCD is on while I'm using the viewfinder.

Sorry I can't answer your question. But how do you like the A510? I am planning on buying one Hopefully today.Right now I have a A40.

Hi Charlyllp,

It's too early to tell as I've only had mine for a short time and haven't been able to thoroughly go through its functions and settings. I really loved my A60 and assume the A510 will work out equally well. I definitely like the design and feel of the camera.

A friend of mine who was going to Europe bought one before he left so I had a couple of days to check his out. It worked perfectly for the short time I used it leading me to buy mine. Unfortunately, I'm finding some peculiarities in the one I bought for myself that have me mystified. I'm hoping they are due to my lack of knowledge about the camera rather than changes made in the models or a defect of some kind.

The thing about the LCD really bugs me (although it might not have the same effect on another user). Nonetheless, the photos I've taken so far are clear with excellent color and I'm very pleased in that regard. I've goten some incredible closeups shooting in the macro mode that make me hope the camera works out well otherwise.

Another friend of mine who also bought one a couple of days ago is having a little problem (maybe) with his as well. He knows nothing about digital cameras and is a complete techno-phobe so it's probably something simple that I can help him out with. Should see him in the next day or two and will let you know how it comes out if you like.

Cheers,
Dennis

Thanks for responding.

This thing is driving me nuts. While I can get the the Display button to turn off the image on the LCD, the screen nonetheless comes on for several seconds when turning on the camera and displays the settings.

I know that when a shooting mode is changed it's supposed to come on for about 6 seconds even if the LCD monitor is set to OFF. My problem is that is comes on even if I haven't changed the shooting mode. I know that there is some way to keep it off because I did it on my friend's camera but I can't recall how I did it before and simply can not find it in my own manual.
