Had a go at using the video function on the 7D last weekend, not as easy as you would think. This was at the Mid Hants Railway - Watercress Line Freight Weekend

Don't think Mr Speilberg need worry... :D You're right. I've seen people watch all green, & underexposed images on their dying TV, but if the sound was poor too, they're outta' there to buy a new one. Moving images with sound is a whole different bag of worms, & you should have fun working the kinks out.
I think this needs to go into "Video", but I'll give you a two day redirect.

Its similar to an amateur picking up a new 1DsMkIII and goign out and taking images. They aren't going to be any better than what they used to get on their P&S.
Shooting video is completely different from shooting stills. New techniques, new pitfalls, new skills to be learned, a new language to communicate, on top of adding motion, audio, and storyline to the mix.
Just keep at it, pickup some good books on film making, directing, and practice, practice, practice.
