I finally convinced her to allow me to post her pic. Taken with my trusty 50mm 1.8, which has a broken motor, hence manual focussing. The optics are still good though.

It's a nice picture, and I like the conversion. I like that she is a little to the right. I sometimes do this, but I invariably put the subject to the left (when they're facing right). The light flatters her friendly smile. Great job. I wish more of my people pictures came out as nice.

I love everything about this shot. And she's beautiful! (But you knew that already ;))

JF, Peggy, thanks so much for your kind comments. My wife will be pleased to hear that. I am very lucky to have her, even more so that she accepts me for who I am and for allowing me to indulge in my rather costly hobbies (like photography!) without much fretting.

About the lens, it is a nifty-fifty that I bought for $20. It was priced low because the motor was busted and the previous owner didn't want it anymore. I am quite used to manual focussing in the old days so it wasn't too much a hassle for me. The lens is still sharp and produces a pleasing bokeh. I just wish the 20d had a split focussing screen!

Jane, thanks! The 50mm 1.8 is a great lens even with a busted motor. It is easy to focus, with CF4-1 enabled, all I do is depress the * button with my thumb while focussing. When the central focussing point lights up (I have it enabled too) you are good to go, you can now half depress the shutter button for exposure metering lock and recompose the picture.

Berry, thanks too! You look great too, if I may dare say so. Are you filipina?

Beautiful wife...wish my hubby can take pics like that of me.

Do feel that the background (bright lights) do distract one from focusing on the face.
Maybe a re-composition and a closer shot to show the smoothness/beauty of the skin.

Thank you
Bama

Bama, thanks! I'll see what I can do with the pic.

She's pretty! :)

It's different that she's somewhere in the right. If it's me, I would be putting her a bit on the left--it's hard for me to break those "composition rules". :p But it takes a good photographer to break some for creative results...

BTW, what is a CF4-1? How is it enabled?

Thanks Mag! CF4-1, or Custom Function 4-1, has been discussed at the EOS forum. Basically it separates the focussing and exposure controls into two buttons, the * button for focussing, and the shutter for exposure (half depressed). It has made shooting pictures much easier, my routine is to focus, set exposure (even pointing it at the ground for backlit subjects) then recomposing. I really recommend it. I'm sure the 350D has some version of t.

Nice pic and you have a pretty wife :) I'd crop it a lot more severely, while still showing her whole head.

Again, thanks for the tips and comments, all. My wife is really pleased with the photos that I have taken of her. So pleased that I may be getting that 85 1.2L that i have been eyeing. Wish me luck! Here's one more uncropped pic from the series.

Oh man, you'd be getting a hunk of glass. So dreamy. Good choice if you decide to buy it.

So beautiful. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/largeimages/12181.jpg
