Thought i would try my hand at some HDR this afternoon....
The results i like a lot, but they may be overdone a little to some peoples taste... as i have not done 'slight' HDR but quite a bit... although i think they came out pretty well, i'm particularly fond of the Merlin shot.
Comments very welcome as it's the first time i have "properly" done it.... (done a few over the years but not postable).
First off...
Merlin HC.3 of 28 Squadron in confined area training....

Royal Navy Seaking HC.4 "Commando" coming in to the FRP for a hot refuel with a heavy snow shower in the distance

RAF Chinook HC.2 outbound from the FRP

Army Air Corps Apache AH.1 inbound to the FRP for a hot refuel

Plus a vehicle.... Oshkosh HET (Heavy Equipment Transporter) of the British Army. This transports the Challenger 2 MBT with a low loader.

Normally I hate HDR - it's too often used as an alternative to a well executed image ("fairy dust" to supposedly make up for a poor picture) - but these work extremely well because they're good images, with subject matter that lends itself to this kind of processing.
Not sure about the Oshkosh, but the Merlin, first Apache, RN Sea King and Chinook are excellent - they're not too "smoothed out", which the Oshkosh and the other choppers are, to my taste.

Pretty nice work, color & density wise! Love #1.
#2 doesn't look sharp.
#3 has a HDR halo.
#4-5 have halos, probably from over sharpening.

Really appreciate the comments. Didn't know if people would like them or not but this has spurred me on to do more.
SK6,
You can do HDR with single images (RAW or JPEG) and use Photoshop to under expose and over expose (-1 and +1) to get three images.
You then import these three (underexposed, normal and overexposed) into Photomatix and generate HDR followed by Tone Mapping.
You then use Tone Mapping to get this desired effect (to what your taste is).
Then import it back to Photoshop and touch up / reduce noise (which is created by tone mapping).
It's a lot of fiddling around to begin with but once you have done your first image you can save the settings for the next... and change if required.
