OK. Here's the deal. I'm trying to decide between a 2GB Microdrive and a 1GB Compactflash card. I want the microdrive but am wondering if I need that much storage and am worried about battery draw. I'm using a D Rebel with the stock batteries. I do have two of the battery packs but am worried that they won't last for a full day of shooting cars. Any comments, thoughts, ideas? Thanks for helping a newbi out.......

Have never used a Microdrive, but my view would be to go for the solid state everytime....

Compact Flash ONLY. MD is slow and not reliable

I have used CF cards and microdrives for about 3 years.

In that time I have had 2 cheap Lexar CF cards fail and no microdrives, despite the fact that I used microdrives more until I got a Sandisk Extreme CF card.

Based on my experience, microdives are not all that fragile, but I don't subject them to anything I wouldn't do to my camera.

The Sandisk Extreme card is rated for higher and lower temperatures, although I successfully used microdrives during so rather cold Canadian winter days.

The Sandisk Extreme cards clear the camera buffer quicker and are faster to download to the computer.

Based on my experience I rate media as follows:
1. High quality CF cards such as Sandisk Extreme or Ultra
2. Good quality microdrives such as IBM, Hitachi or Sony
3. Cheap CF cards
4. Cheap microdrives

I currently use Sandisk Extreme CF cards for my main shooting and Hitachi microdrives for back up or excess capacity if the CF cards are full.

Thanks for all the comments guys.......Still havn't figured out which way to go but since the CF card is a bit cheaper, faster and stronger, I think I'm going to go that way. It's just the thought of having all that storage on the microdrive.........
