I am very new at the digital camera thing and was just wondering how much quality I am giving up by changing the stettings on my new Canon A95. I have it on the largest picture with superfine... What if I go a little smaller with superfine??? Sorry for the amateur question, but I am still learning....

If you have the space shoot at the highest quality setting and largest resolution. It's the best future-proofing you have. If you have to trade off then I would suggest keep the highest resolution and drop down to fine compression. Only reduce the resolution as the last option.

Thanks for the info... I have a 1gb card so I have enough space, I just notice how huge the files are when I download them to the computer. Any suggestions???

I am only printing 4X6 pictures and saving images on the computer... should I still have the resolution and compression set on the highest setting???

If you are using smaller pictures and otherwise just using the computer to view them, it is OK to use lower resolution and compression. The only trouble is, you never know what picture you might wish you'd used the highest resolution and compression for best quality. Maybe the best solution is to routinely use highest compression and quality, archive those to CDs or DVDs for possible later use and to save HDD space, and then resize them to smaller JPGs on your computer for convenience in looking at them. Some of the better photo software out there will allow you to set up a program to do this automatically with large batches of photos. I have resized photos one at a time but I haven't automated this yet - maybe somebody else can enlighten us more on this.

Okay, that makes sense... I can resize the picture and save it to the computer to email, etc... I guess I really did not think about that... Thanks for the insight. What programs are good? I have CorelDraw 8 and Photoimpression 5. Any other good ones??

Most photo editors allow for you to do Batch editing. you can select all the photos and apply whatever editing you want to all. Look up "Batch manager" in the help option of whatever software you are using.
