I have a serious problem with my 350D. When I shoot a strongly backlit object that has dark borders, I get deep blue colors on the edges. This happens only for objects with dark edges and only when backlit(See attached image). Why does this happen? Has any one faced this issue? What is the solution?
If I have to live with this issue, can this be fixed in photoshop and how?
Thanks in advance.

This is chromatic abboration. Stopping down may help, but it depends on the lens. If this is the kit lens, then it was to be expected. You can open the image in photoshop and use selective coloring to reduce the tones. It will almost make it dissapear.

I did selective coloring adjustments and replace color adjustments.

Pic looks like the ISO is set very high, or a 100 percent crop of a low quality image. can you post exif data and the lens used?

wow! Thanks TheObiJuan. That almost eliminates the blue color. And the good news, I was thinking it could be a problem with my camera. :)
Dante King, Yes it was shot at a higher ISO. Here is the exit data.
