I am looking to upgrade my Drebel to a new lens and have saw some shots with the Tamron 75-300. I was wondering if this was a good deal or not.

...agreed. Spend a little more and get the tamron 28-75 xr di.

Or spend a little less and get the nifty 50... canon 50mm f/1.8 for about $80. If you want the zoom, the canon 75-300 USM is better than that Tamron in my opinion.

I had the 75-300 by Tamron for about 5 years. Its a good lens for beginers IMO. Image quality is decent. My only complaint was that it does focus slowly and the motor is a bit noisy. I used it mainly for tele-macro (1:2) shots of butterflyes, etc.

It seems to me that when an eBay item has a huge description and lots of pictures and claims, the product is usually sub-par. Conversely, quality items generally get posted with short descriptions - sort of like the seller knows the prospective buyer will know his/her stuff and does not need convincing. Does that make sense.

Those lenses are cheap, low contrast pieces of crap. On top of that they are very slow. They don't let in enough light, they focus slowly, the are built poorly.

Without seeing better lenses, an ignorant consumer would be happy, just because he doesn't know what a good lens is. But you can still take and make pictures with the lenses, just don't expect great quality enlargements.
