View Full Version : Fuzzy spots with flash photography and my G10

When I shoot against dark backgrounds with my flash enabled, I get fuzzy artifacts that show up in my images. It happens all the time - indoors, outdoors. Somewhere on the image there will be at least one fuzzy snowflake like blur on my image.

Is this really dust in the air, or is there dirt or dust on the sensor or inside of the camera. It is really annoying, because it has distorted some really good shots.

My G10 is coming up on the end of the warranty. Is it worth while sending it to Canon to have a look? What should I tell them to do, or to look for?

Help?

How about posting a sample image?

might be dust on the lens, which would be an easy fix

Here are a few shots - I have circled the spots.

It happens inside, outside, during the day, and at night.

Most of my shots if not all of them with flash have some sort of snowflake in the shot.

On the inside or the outside of the lens?

I have cleaned the outside of the lens with a microfibre cloth, and it does not look like there is dust on the outside.

Might be lens flare. Make a hood out of a roll of paper and see if that helps. Many, but not all of those have a very bright light in the frame.

If it doesn't have spots in daylight, I wouldn't think it would be dust. Besides, dust should be darker rather than lighter.
