My site has been up for several months now and I want to add a blog. I wasn't impressed with the company that designed my site and am not going back to them for my blog.

How hard is it to add a blog and who would you all recommend I have do it for me?

Also, any input on my site would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis

Hi Dennis - one possibility is to use blogspot.

I can't code html and tend to "break" things when changing text on my own site - had a designer put it together - but blogger is extremely easy to get up and running. It's not perfect, and there a few clunky things about it, but it's convenient and will even help your google rankings a little.

A lot of folks here love Wordpress - supposedly more full featured, flexible (no experience myself) - but it may be a bit more labor intensive. Of course, that could also give you more flexibility.

Btw, I'm happy to see you use PRICING instead of investment which IMHO I've always felt to be prententious. But that's just me.

I use Wordpress for my blog. I know HTML/CSS so I did my website and blog myself.

What purpose do you want a blog for?

What don't you like about your current site?

I'd strongly suggest against using blogspot, if you want a blog, you want it fully integrated within your site.

Have you considered using WordPress as a CMS (content management software) to run your site and use as a blog? Or, if you aren't tech savvy, pay someone to set it up and then [very easily] learn how to update it?

My site is powered by WordPress and isn't a traditional blog by the definition, so there are a LOT of options out there. www.mikepanic.com is my site and a review of the theme I used is here: http://www.randomn3ss.com/review-gallerific-wordpress-theme-the-relaunch-of-mikepaniccom/

This is the wrong forum, but I do setup sites / WP / etc. and can be hired, shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Since you own the domain, you can create a sub domain that is blog.dennisrossphotography.com. You can also have these link forward to and mask a blogspot page I believe. I know this is easy to add and set up with my GoDaddy account...for other hosting sites you would have to research/ask.

Otherwise, I would look into word press. Blogspot would be the easiest though.

use wordpress... it is so much better.

The theme that i have started using is atahualpa because almost every part of it is customizable.

For my photo blog, i use one called pixel and i edited some of the code -- www.crazy-faith.com
and for a site for a friend, i use atahualpa -- www.unitinthenations.com

There are a ton of other things you can do with wordpress installed on your own domain.

I dont know too much html or css, but if i want something specific, i can ask in their forum for the atahualpa theme or google different codes.

Its so simple!

Not sure if you were referring to me or the thread originator. I haven't used word press, but I read about it. I know you have to install it on your server space, so for someone like drtidefan it may be easier to have a preexisting blog and create a sub domain that links to it.

For myself, I would do whatever I can customize the most, but maintain easily at the same time. I know html and css well, and its been a while since I did PHP but I could pick it up again on the fly. I almost started to create my site in wordpress because it was recommended to me. Sites I have seen that are made with word press seem to cookie cutter with layout and such. That is fine for a blog, but I want more flexibility for the rest of my site.

Wordpress with the ProPhoto3 (http://www.prophotoblogs.com/) theme. It's worth it. I've been using it for years and each release adds more value. I did the do it yourself option, but he also has a handheld installation where they will install Wordpress and the theme for you. (Still up to you to customize it though, which is a fairly easy process.)

Here's a discount code for $10 off the ProPhoto theme: JACUFF2232

either one of you guys. It is very easy to install and your website host will usually install them for you.
