I am very new to this all!

I was wondering if the zoom ability of the G2 could be improved by additional lenses?

I understand there are additional filters and wide angle lenses but do they give better zoom ability?

there are additional teleconverter lenses which you can add on. there are a variety of options, including lenses made by canon, olympus, kenko, and tiffen. there are others that work, but those are the recommended ones to use. they generally increase the zoom capability from 1.4X to 2X.

As a multiple of previous ability?
So that would mean 3x with a 2x addition produces a 6x optical zooom?

I'm learning - but slowly!

The zoom range (maximum divided by minimum) will not change. It will still be a 3:1 zoom. With the telephoto attachment lens, you will have a longer focal length for all zoom settings than without the attachment lens.

The G2 lens is (in 35mm camera terms) approximately a 34mm to 102mm equivalent. If you had a 2X telephoto attachment lens on it, what you'd have is approximately a 68mm to 204mm equivalent.

The attachment lenses do not change the ratio of the zoom.

Hope this helps.
