Has anyone had any luck programming their harmony remote to control their canon dSLR? i found an old thread on this but seems they didn't have any luck. i programmed the remote for EOS450 and it comes up as a VCR but none of the buttons triggers the camera

Thats an interesting idea, but I have to ask: why? Are you really going to carry around a huge universal remote to trigger the shutter on your camera when you can just carry the tiny Canon one?

No I would carry it around but I would like to play with a remote at home before investing in one and thought the harmony remote should be able to do it.

Harmony remotes can 'learn' functions.
Do you have a friend that has one? Or can you buy one locally and then return it?

you'd only need it for about an hour to do the learning...

nope don't know anyone that has one, and buying one to return it is just too much work, I'm not that interested, just thought if someone on here had found how to configure it, it would help

Im pretty sure it would work without any problems. I have owned several Harmony remotes and trained each with quite a few random IR devices and never really had a problem with any.

I dont think any of the canon dslr's have receivers built in. You can buy trigger sets, but nothing in the body of the camera.
